Buford McCreary

The Man Behind The Legend

Buford McCreary

Founder & Master Craftsman

In 1985, Buford McCreary was working construction in Bardstown when a local distillery asked him to repair some damaged display cases. What should have been a simple fix turned into something more—Buford noticed the cheap accessories didn't match the quality of the bourbon they housed.

"These bottles deserve better," he told the distillery manager, and that conversation changed everything.

Buford had been woodworking since he was twelve, learning from his grandfather who built church pews and kitchen cabinets. But he'd never considered it more than a hobby until that moment in the distillery

Working evenings and weekends in his garage, Buford started crafting humidors and tasting boards from Kentucky hardwoods. Word spread through Bardstown's tight-knit community. Soon, bourbon masters and cigar shop owners were stopping by, drawn to accessories that matched their appreciation for quality.

The nickname "Blind" came from his uncanny ability to work by feel—running his fingers along wood grain to detect imperfections that others missed entirely.

By 1988, demand outgrew the garage. Buford rented a small workshop on Main Street and hired his first apprentice. Nearly four decades later, that same commitment to craftsmanship—and the belief that quality accessories enhance the entire experience—guides every piece that carries his name.

Today, Buford still visits the workshop most mornings, checking the day's work and teaching techniques he learned from his grandfather. "It's not about building furniture," he often tells new craftsmen. "It's about building something that makes people appreciate what they're tasting and smoking just a little bit more.
